About

Helping churches develop and maintain Biblically
and legally sound organizational structures.

What is the Healthy Church Initiative?

The Healthy Church Initiative is best thought of as a bundle of legal services for churches utilizing the Bible as its foundation. We review and make recommendations for updating legal documents, including articles of incorporation, constitution and bylaws and issue-specific church policies.

The process provides an opportunity to assure that your church is organized and operated in accordance with the clearly articulated principles for governing the New Testament Church. The end result is a set of organizational documents that foster clarity of purpose, focus on the mission and unity among members. For a more detailed description of the process, check out our video, “The Healthy Church Initiative Process: An Overview.” In addition to preparing organizational documents, we support churches by conducting thorough, confidential investigations related allegations of abuse or other misconduct.

Our team includes trained and experienced mediators and Christian Conciliators who can help your church navigate through disputes in a Biblically-focused manner. Through our Pastoral Support Program we serve as a confidential source of advice and counsel for struggling pastors.

What does the Healthy Church Initiative do?
We help churches build and maintain Biblically and legally sound organizational structures.

How does the Healthy Church Initiative work?
  1. Preliminary Discussion with Schuette Law Group

The first step is usually for a representative of the interested church to contact us through the website or by email to schedule a preliminary discussion, which is usually a telephone conference or a videoconference.

  1. Free Document Review

If we determine through our preliminary discussion that the Healthy Church Initiative is something that would benefit your church, we obtain copies of your organizational documents and perform a free document review. The purpose of the review is to determine whether your existing documents provide adequate structure and protection for your church. We deliver the results of our review through an email, a second telephone conference or videoconference or, in some instances, a private video posted to our YouTube channel (accessible only by specific invitation).

  1. Free Initial Consultation

By the time we complete the preliminary discussion and document review, we will know whether taking your church through the Healthy Church Initiative process is the right thing to do. If so, it is time to schedule your free initial consultation. Depending on geography, the initial consultation can be in person (either at the church or at the offices of Schuette Law Group in Bowling Green) or by videoconference. We recommend that all of your key leaders participate in this consultation, which will include a more detailed presentation of the process, the timeline, and the cost.

How long does the Healthy Church Initiative take?
The length of time to complete the Healthy Church Initiative process varies widely, depending on the particular needs and priorities of your church. It usually takes at least 90 days from start to finish, but sometimes considerably longer. The thing to bear in mind is that the Healthy Church Initiative is not just about generating a set of organizational documents. The process of revising your organizational documents requires you to carefully work through the specific calling and mission of your church in a way that brings clarity and refinement to your church’s vision.
How much does the Healthy Church Initiative cost?
The cost of the Healthy Church Initiative, like the length of the process, is widely variable. We set our pricing based on the size of the church and its ability to pay. Generally speaking, the cost is structured to reflect the value of specialized legal services. But at the end of the day, we are driven by a desire to come alongside Biblically faithful churches to support their efforts to carry out the Great Commission and serve their communities in a winsome and effective way.
